Happy Father’s Day from Baileys of Glenrowan
Father's Day is an opportunity to show appreciation to the man who is there for you, be it dad, stepdad, mentor or role model. Sometimes, the usual gifts of socks or a book just don’t cut it. As September is also Organic Month, this year, say ‘cheers and thank you’ with organic wine.
Baileys of Glenrowan has a longstanding reputation for its organic wines, having invested significant time and effort to meet the necessary certification requirements.
So you can impress Dad with your knowledge as well as the wine, here’s a little bit of history for you. The original Baileys vineyards were planted in 1870 by Varely Bailey and began life without the aid of synthetic sprays and chemicals, which remained for decades. In 2009 the Baileys team adopted organic farming practices across the Baileys vineyards. In 2012 organic management practices were implemented from the vineyard through to the winery. Today, our winemaking philosophy mirrors the vineyard based on the minimal intervention ethos that lets the fruit shine, and from vintage 2019, all Baileys of Glenrowan table wines are organically grown and produced.
To help you out, we’ve curated a list of some of our favourite organic wine options we are sure will be appreciated by the special man in your life.
The 2019 Varley shiraz is named after our founding winemaker, Varley Bailey. The Varley Shiraz brings together the very best parcels of fruit grown at Baileys each year, so you can be confident you are gifting Bailey’s finest shiraz.
The wine is purple-maroon in colour. It displays ripe raspberry and blood plum aromas, with earthy spice and cedar notes. The palate is dripping with concentrated berry flavours and ripe tannins, providing structure and texture.
1920’s Block Shiraz
One of our most celebrated wines - this shiraz pairs perfectly with classic veal dishes and light game meats such as duck or quail, so if you are in the mood for cooking up a storm – grab some organic ingredients and have an organic feast.
The wine has a beautiful bright purple colour with lifted florals and allspice aromas. It holds immense fruit concentration thanks to a vintage that showed excellent growing conditions.
The Baileys 2019 Durif is full-bodied, opulent, well textured and rippling with tannins. This wine has a deliciously long and flavoursome finish, with spicy, complex oak-derived characters. It pairs perfectly with a medium-rare Tomohawk steak, so fire up the barbeque!
